What’s a GREAT answer for such a common question?
When you are in line at Starbucks & someone learns that you are a real estate agent, I’m sure you get this question most of the time…
“How’s the Market?”
Since getting business by word of mouth is by far better and cheaper than mailers or internet leads…Be Prepared on How to Answer That Question!!!
An ineffective answer would be something like, “It’s still really strong with very little inventory.” Or this is not a great answer either, “It’s slowing down which could be seasonal.”
What does the person in line at Starbucks really want to know and what are they really asking? “How’s MY market?” They don’t care about YOUR market. They want to know how homes are selling in their area/neighborhood or where they are looking to buy. Are values going up, down, sideways? How long is it taking for homes to sell?
How about this response…
“Overall, the market is doing well.
I’m curious when you ask, “How’s the market?”, would you be interested in specifically how much homes are selling for in your neighborhood and how long they are taking to sell?
What I do for my friends, family and other people in the neighborhood is send a quick email that gives you an up-to-the-moment true analysis of how well the market is doing in your neighborhood. Would you like me to send that to you?
Cool – what’s your email address?”
Give that a try. It will help you add people to your database and also help you move into a more meaningful real estate discussion when you’re having casual encounters.
